Welcome back Crystal from Time Counselor Chronicles

Today, I’m talking with Crystal Stuart, a TEMCO lab technician, from Danele Rotharmel’s new book, Time Search. Time Search is the third book in The Time Counselor Chronicles. Crystal, it’s nice talking with you again. I enjoyed our last interview in September.

I enjoyed chatting with you too, Lisa! Thank you so much for having me again!

It’s a pleasure, Crystal. Last time we spoke, you admitted that you had a crush on Marc Kerry, a professional time surfer. How is that going?

Frankly, like a lead balloon! It’s a big, fat, fizzling FAILURE!!! I know that you said Marc liked me, but I’m afraid you were wrong!

Are you sure about that?

TOTALLY sure! Today, Zeke assigned Marc to be my field partner, and Marc practically hit the roof. You should’ve heard the insulting things that Marc said about me! I know I can be a klutz, but Marc practically said that I was a galumphing camel with two left feet! I’m still angry about it! I had to leave the room in order to cool off, so I thought this would be a good chance for you and I to talk.

I’m glad you popped in to see me, but I’m sorry things aren’t going well between you and Marc.

Me too!!! Marc Kerry is an insufferable prig! I don’t care how cute he happens to be! In my opinion, he’s a real JERK! After I finish talking with you, I’m going back to NSU and confront him. He’d better be prepared to apologize BIG TIME!!!! He thinks he’s God’s ultimate gift to woman, but I’m one woman who doesn’t think he’s all that special! I called him a narcissist once, but that description was way too benign!

I know you’re angry with Marc, but if you’ll be honest, you still like him—don’t you?

LIKE HIM??? Are you serious? He’s a—

Come on, Crystal—be honest.

(Long pause) Okay, maybe I do like him. But just a little bit—a very, teeny-tiny, itty-bitty, microscopically small, little bit. (Chuckles) Lisa, Marc gets on my very last nerve, but when he smiles, I melt into a gooey, mushy puddle. (Sighs) He’s such a dreamboat. (Sits up straight and glares) But don’t you DARE tell him that!

I wouldn’t dream of it, Crystal.

Good! I consider you a friend, and I’d hate to strike your name off my Christmas card list!

Your secret is safe with me. Now, Crystal, besides your tiff with Marc, how are you doing? I’ve heard you’ve been having nightmares.

You’d have nightmares too if a maniac whacked you on the head, locked you inside a flaming building, and left you to burn to death. (Shudders) I’m not sure when I last had a good night’s rest. And what’s worse is that besides the nightmares, I’ve started sleepwalking. When I was a little girl, I began sleepwalking after my father’s death. One time, I walked all the way to the bus station and tried to buy a ticket to my grandparents’ farm. My sleepwalking eventually cleared up, but the stress of what’s happening with Drake has started it up again. I’ll be lucky if I don’t end up sleepwalking down the middle of a busy street!

That’s awful! Have you told Zeke or Marc?

Zeke knows about my nightmares, but not about the sleepwalking. And as far as Marc, the LAST thing I need is for him to know any more of my quirks. He already thinks I’m weird—I don’t want to confirm it.

Hopefully, your nightmares will stop once Drake is caught. How is the hunt going?

(Huffs) Frustratingly slow!!! We know that Drake is using an alias, and we know that he’s angry with TEMCO because one of our counselors told his girlfriend to break up with him, but that’s ALL we know! TEMCO has counseled thousands of girls—trying to find one who’s connected with Drake is proving to be a monumental task—especially since we don’t know Drake’s real name!

When I interviewed Drake, he said that he’d given you all of the clues you needed to uncover his identity.

I don’t doubt it! Drake thinks he’s smarter than all of us put together. I know he’s laughing at our inability to solve his clues. But I’m not giving up! After what he did to Phoebe, he deserves to be nailed right to the wall! We’re going to catch him! And when we do, I’m going to make him pay!

By the way, how is Phoebe?

Oh, Lisa! I wish I knew. I’ve heard that she’s been taken someplace safe and that she’s recovering, but that’s all I know… I guess that’s good, though. Her safety depends on Drake being ignorant of her whereabouts. If he gets his hands on me, I don’t want to be able to squeal. Sometimes ignorance is bliss—FRUSTRATING bliss—but bliss all the same.

Do you know the location of TEMCO’s leaders?

Are you kidding??? Drake wants them all dead. They’ve been placed in protective custody until things clear up. Their location is TOP SECRET!!! Emphasis on T-O-P!

I’m sure that Dan and Gil aren’t very happy about the protective custody!

(Laughs) You can say that again! Gil is probably climbing the walls right now! She can’t stand to be on the sidelines, and Dan is SUPER protective of the TEMCO team. Hopefully, their new baby will keep them busy enough that their inactivity won’t drive them too crazy.

Have you seen the baby? Is he cute?

Oooooo!!!! Baby Jay is cuter than cute! He’s such a little love bug! I can’t wait until Dan and Gil are back in town. I’m going to beg Gil to let me babysit!

How about Peter and Laura? Any news on how they’re doing?

Only a bit. As you know, they managed to escape from Drake’s trap, but Peter was injured in the process…  Actually, he almost died. I’ve heard they’re doing well, but communication is sketchy at best.

What about Zeke and Nicole? How’s their romance shaping up?

Oh, Lisa! Watching Zeke when he’s around Nicole is SUCH A HOOT! He’s been alone for so long that he can’t believe his luck! Half the time he walks around with his chest puffed out like superman, and the other half of the time he walks around with a stunned expression on his face. And Nicole is just as bad. She’s ultra-sophisticated, but when she’s around Zeke, the sophistication gets dialed down until she’s just a simple girl who’s totally in love. Sometimes being in the same room with them is like being knee-deep in pink cotton candy and sticky, sweet syrup. But I love it! I’m so glad that Zeke is finally happy! He sure deserves it! And Nicole is a blast! Even though we’ve just met, I’m sure that we’re going to be best friends.

I’m glad!

Me too!... Yikes!!! Gracious, will you look at the time? I’m afraid that I have to run. With Drake on the warpath, it’s all hands on deck at TEMCO. Thanks for interviewing me, Lisa! I enjoyed it…and it’s given me a chance to cool off. Thanks to you, I may be able to speak to Marc without biting his head off—but I’m still expecting him to give me a good apology!

I’m sure that he will, Crystal. I wasn’t joking when I said that he likes you.

Well, if Marc likes me, he has an awfully funny way of showing it! Sheesh! He’s supposed to be SUPER charismatic, but in my opinion, it’s not very charming to tell a person they’re a rampaging klutz! If his apology isn’t extra special, he’d better watch out! I know karate, and I’m not afraid to use it!

(Laughs) You’ll have to keep me posted on what happens. I hope you have a wonderful day, Crystal! Thanks so much for stopping by!

Anytime! See you later!

About Danele Rotharmel

Danele RotharmelDanele Rotharmel grew up with a love of the literary word, and by age five, she knew she wanted to be a writer. However, her life took an unexpected turn when a mysterious illness brought her close to death. Eventually, she learned that a low-level carbon monoxide leak from a faulty furnace in her home was slowly poisoning her. This poisoning triggered severe Multiple Chemical Sensitivity and partial amnesia.

During this time, the hardest thing she faced was a crisis of faith. She had to quit her job and stop going to church. She couldn’t write, couldn’t drive, and could barely remember who she was. To say she was upset with the Lord was an understatement. She began reexamining her faith in light of her illness, and eventually, she came to the firm conclusion that God is real, God is good, God is interested and involved, and God is trustworthy regardless of tragedy.

When her illness became even more severe, she was put into quarantine and could only talk to friends and extended family through the glass of a window. This quarantine lasted for seven years. During this time, she wrote the first six books in The Time Counselor Chronicles.

Danele currently lives in Colorado where she continues to write. Although her journey back to health was long and difficult, it provided her with the opportunity to grow closer to God and to write her books. For that, she is forever thankful.

Meet VP Hamilton from Danele Rotharmel's Time Search

Today, I’m talking with Vice President Andrew Hamilton from Danele Rotharmel’s new book, Time Search. Time Search is the third book in The Time Counselor Chronicles. Mr. Vice President, it’s nice to meet you.

Thank you, Lisa. It’s a pleasure to be here. Please, call me Andrew.

Andrew, I know you’re an avid supporter of TEMCO. Can you explain why you think the TEMCO program is so vital to our nation?

The statistics speak for themselves, Lisa. Last year, the TEMCO program directly led to 122 murderers vanishing from death row—and that’s not even counting the number of petty crimes and suicides that TEMCO time surfers have prevented. When a TEMCO counselor travels back through time and stops a young person from taking their first steps toward a life of crime, we all benefit. Supporting TEMCO just makes sense.

It’s rumored that you were time counseled by Zeke Masters when you were a teenager. Is that true?

At this time, I’m afraid that I cannot confirm or deny those rumors.

I understand. I know that TEMCO is currently facing a crisis. Drake Procerus, one of TEMCO’s senior cadets has gone rogue. People across the nation are understandably concerned. I’ve heard that you’re helping the TEMCO team and that you’ve assigned agents to track Drake down. Is there anything you’d like to add?

Because of the ongoing nature of this investigation, I’m unable to comment about Mr. Procerus. At this point, saying anything could be potentially detrimental. I’m sure you understand.

Of course. Let’s talk about something else, shall we? Nation Today has just named you “America’s Most Eligible Bachelor.” Congratulations!

Thank you, Lisa. But although the title is quite an honor, I’m afraid that it may make my life more complicated.

How so?

Many women are already intimidated by my political job and security concerns. Throwing a title like “America’s Most Eligible Bachelor” in the mix may ensure that the only ladies who will look my way are publicity seekers. Being grouped with playboys, rock stars, male models, and movie stars has its drawbacks.

I suppose that could be true. By your comment, it sounds as if you’re looking for love. Would you like to be married some day?

Of course. Marriage is a wonderful gift from the Lord. I would love to start a family.

Has any particular lady caught your eye?

Perhaps. But she’s not available.

Why? Is she already married?

Of course not! I would never proposition a married woman! The lady in question is simply residing in another country.

You’re blushing, Andrew. Who is this mystery woman?

Lisa…this will sound strange, but I don’t really know.

If you’ve never met, how do you know that you like her?

She’s a violinist traveling through Europe, and at night, I’ve been watching her televised concerts. I haven’t learned her name yet, but she is lovely… I suppose I sound like a fool.

Not a fool—a romantic.

Thank you, Lisa. That’s generous of you to say. I’ve been told that dream girls don’t exist—but I’ve found mine. I just wish I knew her name.

I may’ve seen one of your violinist’s televised concerts last night. Is she currently preforming in Ireland?

Yes! Lisa, this is wonderful! Did you happen to catch her name?

Yes… But I’m not sure that Danele would approve of me telling you. I think you should learn your dream-girl’s name on your own.

But—!

On another subject, I’ve heard that you’ve been asked to keep an eye on Angelina Ableman, Dan’s younger sister. Have you met her?

No… Lisa, can’t you give me a hint about my violinist’s name?

As much as I’d enjoy being known as the matchmaker for “America’s Most Eligible Bachelor,” I’m afraid that I shouldn’t say anything else. I wouldn’t want to spoil your surprise.

I’m disappointed, of course—but I understand. Would you like to ask me another question?

I’ve heard that your sister, Jessica, was in a serious car accident. How is she doing?

Not well, I’m afraid. As you know, Jessica was a rising star in the dancing world. Her injuries were severe, and they’ve put an end to her career. She’s living with me now, and I’m doing all that I can to help her recover.

I’m so sorry. Would it be possible for me to speak with her?

At this time, Jessica isn’t well enough for visitors. But I’ll send her your regards.

Thank you. On another topic, you and President Freemar are running for reelection. The last time you ran, you won in a landslide victory. You’re currently holding steady at an 84 percent approval rating. Do you feel that winning the upcoming election will be easy?

Lisa, nothing is ever easy when it comes to politics. But I’ve done my best to serve this country, and if the people of the United States would like me to serve another term, I will be honored.

I wish you well in the upcoming election, Andrew. Thank you so much for being here and talking to my readers.

Thank you for having me, Lisa. It’s been a pleasure.

Meet Villainous Drake from Time Search by Danele Rotharmel

Today, I’m talking with Drake Procerus from Danele Rotharmel’s new book, Time Search. Time Search is the third book in The Time Counselor Chronicles. Drake, it’s nice to meet you.

Thank you, Lisa. It’s nice to be here. I’m anxious to tell my side of the story.

Good. That’s what I’d like you to do. As the villain of Time Search, how do—

Villain? You think I’m the villain?

Drake, please sit back down.

I’m not a villain! It’s lies! All lies! The villains are those stupid TEMCO employees! They destroy people’s lives and then congratulate themselves on their success! They’re the ones who need stopped! They’re the—

Drake, I asked you to sit down.

(Long pause)(Smiles) Of course. I’m sorry, Lisa.

Take your hand out of your pocket! If you pull a knife, security will be here in a flat second.

Smart, aren’t you? But not smart enough to have security frisk me before this interview.

Drake! I’m warning—

Don’t worry. I’m here to talk—not play. (Slowly removes his hand from his pocket.)

Thank you. That’s better. Now, can you tell me why you’re so angry with TEMCO?

Didn’t those stupid TEMCO clones tell you?

I’d like to hear your side. That’s why you’re here.

In that case, I had one good person in my life. One! And those TEMCO “heroes” took her from me! She was everything—everything—to me, and after they “time counseled” her, she never spoke to me again. They destroyed my life when they brainwashed her!

Are you referring to your ex-girlfriend? Who was she? What was her name?

Are you trying to pump me for information? Did Crystal Stuart put you up to this? Or was it Zeke Masters? Are you working for them?

I’m simply conducting an interview. An interview in which you agreed to participate.

Like fun, you are! You’re a TEMCO spy—and not even a convincing one! If TEMCO wants to find out the name of my girl, and if they want to know who I am, they’ll just have to figure it out for themselves. I’ve provided them with all the necessary clues. They’re just too stupid to put the pieces together. They deserve what’s headed their way. They’re morons!

Crystal’s not a moron.

No… She’s not. (Pauses) She’s a problem… Luckily, I know how to deal with problems.

Are you threatening Crystal’s safety?

(Smiles) I’m just talking. Friendly-like. No need to get worried.

You’re eyes look strange. They have a silver gleam.

(Chuckles) It’s just the lighting. You need different bulbs. No need to worry. Ask your next question.

Why did you kidnap Phoebe?

Precious Phoebe was just a stupid squirrel in the road. If a squirrel gets on the highway, it deserves to be flattened. I needed bait, and she made herself so available. What happened to Phoebe was her own fault.

But she escaped, didn’t she? She defeated you…. Drake! I told you to stay seated!

What do you know about Phoebe? Do you know where she went? Tell me where she is! Tell me now!

Drake, put down that knife! Security! Security!

(Sounds of a door being flung open. Running footsteps… Sounds of a scuffle… Shouts… Glass breaking… More people enter the room.)

Ms. Lickel, I’m Agent Ruthford. Are you okay? Where’s Drake?

I’m fine. Drake broke the window and escaped through it. He ran down the street toward the left. One of the security guards went after him. You may be able to catch him if you hurry!

(Running footsteps. Door slams. More shouts.)

Readers, I’m sorry that we have to cut this interview short. But I’m afraid that Drake has left the building. I’m also afraid that he’ll never be let back inside of it!

Phoebe Reynolds from Time Trap by Danele Rotharmel

Meet Phoebe Reynolds
Character from Time Trap by Danele J. Rotharmel

Today, I’m talking with Phoebe Reynolds, a senior cadet in the Temporal Counseling Program at National Science University. Phoebe, I’ve heard that you’re about to take your field exam. Can you tell us more about the test?

Sure, Lisa! In order to earn my Time-Counselor License, I have to pass a field exam. For four years, I’ve been studying about time travel. Now, I have the opportunity to surf timewaves myself! I can’t wait!

How far into the past will you be traveling, and what will you be doing?

Unfortunately, because of TEMCO protocol, I can’t give specifics. However, I can say that I’ll be traveling about ten years into the past, and my case subject is a girl named Nicki. She’s a fourteen-year-old artist who is about to commit suicide. It’ll be my job to convince Nicki that life is worth living.

I’ve heard that because of new field-exam protocol, cadets are now teamed with partners. Can you tell us a little about your partner?

My partner is Drake Procerus, another senior cadet. I’m really looking forward to working with him.

You just blushed. Is there something going on between you two?

Not yet, but… Lisa, all of the girls wanted partnered with Drake. He’s so cute. When he looks at me, my bones melt. It’s been so much fun going through the preliminary stages of testing with him. I’m hoping that once we’re out in the field, I can really catch his eye. Gil, one of TEMCO’s former cadets, fell in love during her field exam. Why couldn’t it happen to me?... Not that I won’t be focused on Nicki, of course. Nicki is my first priority.

Are field exams dangerous?

Not usually. Gil ended up facing a serial killer during her exam, but I don’t think that will happen to me. After all, I’m just dealing with a suicidal teenager. What could be dangerous about that? Besides, I’ll have Drake as my partner. I feel completely safe.

You just went pale and shivered. Why?

I’m not sure… I just had the strangest feeling… Never mind, I’m just being silly. It’s just a case of nerves. I know that everything will be fine. Field exams are safe—at least, most of the time.

Phoebe, thanks for being with us today, I wish you the best with your exam.

Thanks, Lisa. I can’t wait to make a difference in Nicki’s life!

And what about catching Drake’s eye?

I can’t wait to do that too!

About Time Trap:
When problems arise during a field exam, Director Peter Matthews and Dr. Laura Nelson are sent through a time portal to investigate.  While they search for their missing cadets, they encounter an enemy who is calculating and brutal—a mysterious nemesis who is holding a grudge against the TEMCO program.  As Peter and Laura race to unravel clues directing them to their kidnapped cadets, their own survival comes into question.  A deadly trap has been set, and they are forced to pit their wits against a serial killer who is intent on playing a deadly chess game through time itself.
