About the Book

A Christian Speculative Fiction Novella set in the 1930s through 1950s.

Child prodigy Jacquelyn (Jackie) Carter’s life is interrupted when she dies. From the beginning of her life, her Guardian angel, Faphick, senses Jackie is remarkable. God regards all His children as special and important to Him.

Faphick and a host of other Beings play out their roles in the spiritual dimension that surrounds her. Although unseen by Jackie, they are critical to her life.

A visit to Heaven feels like pure bliss, and although she would like to stay, Heaven isn’t ready to keep her. She’d always thought her vocation as a dancer-entertainer defined her life. Sent back to Earth to fulfill her purpose, with no instruction book, wrenches her soul.

As pressure mounts, will she overcome enormous obstacles and find her God-given purpose? Will she accept Aunt Sherry’s help as prospects around her dwindle? Faphick wants to keep evil away and shield her from any distress. How much can he intervene?

My review

Fuson adds to her extensive repertoire of inspirational fiction with a tale from the other side. If you’ve wondered about the role of Guardian angels and heavenly Beings, Interruption offers a creative answer.

Jackie is a special child endowed with beautiful gifts. She’s looked after, as are all humans, by heavenly beings who don’t interfere, she’s able to make life choices both positive and inappropriate. We are all give a purpose on Earth. Some of us find it sooner than later; some of us are able to whether storms better than others. When Jackie spirals out of control, everyone from the unseen, fearsome and loving Faphick to her earthly family gathers to help. Whether she accepts it is up to her.

Told in alternating viewpoints and timelines from Faphick to Jackie, Interruption is sure to delight and provide thought-provoking questions about life and faith to readers of inspiring fiction.

A "what if" thriller in the struggle for sovereignty.

Follow the ensuing struggle for sovereignty through the exploits of a small band of refuges, led by a retired Marine, as they travel from South Carolina to Texas in their attempt to join Colonel James Bowie. Bowie leads the Texas Militia as they prepare for an invasion of their borders.

The Yellow Rose of Texas: The Secession of the Lone Star State, takes a fictional look at the secession of Texas from the United States of America. President Nicholas Watson takes office January 2017, with a 22 trillion national debt and the promise to eliminate any mention of religion from the government including disallowing religious holidays. Taxes have increased, entitlement programs have flourished and gun control has attempted to disarmed the U.S. Citizenship. The military force has been cut by forty-five percent leaving the U.S. vulnerable. In the eyes of the conservatives the new President is finishing the plunge of the United States to the bottom of World dominance.

Texas, on the other hand, is debt free and the economy is booming. They now have complete control of the Mexico/Texas border and have all but eliminated the drug cartel operations in the border towns. Governor Halford Bent, has helped Texas to become self-sufficient and has now decided it is time to break away from the control of a Federal Government destined to failure. The Texas Militia, led by Colonel James Bowie, has secured the border.

Martial Law is instituted by President Watson and he launches an all out effort to stop the secession. The Scaled down United States Marines are called upon to ready themselves for a military take over of Texas. Detention camps are set up to hold Texans and sympathizers caught outside the Texas borders. The fear of another Civil War looms on the horizon as we find father against son and brother against brother in the struggle for Sovereignty.

About the Author

Dennis Snyder, Author of the Lake Haven Murders series and the Looking at Life Through the Bible Series, has been writing non-fiction for over twenty years. His move into the fiction genre has been well received. He and his wife are the proud parents of two adult children and the grandparents of a beautiful grand daughter.

Dennis is a pastor of a local church in Michigan.
When Dennis is not preaching he enjoys riding his Harley, golfing and spending time with his wife.

Dennis, introduce us to the story concept. Where did it come from and share one thing that surprised you in your research

I was enjoying a breakfast meal with six or so men from our church and we were discussing my newly released book “Personal Vengeance” when one of the men made a comment, “Your next book should be about Texas seceding from the Union.” My response was, “What do I know about that?”
When I returned home I got to thinking about the comment and started to do a little bit of research and the next thing you know I was hooked. Six months later the book was finished. Of course my imagination plays a big part in the story line, it is fiction after all.
As I did the research o secession I was impressed with the fact that Texas could actually secede and make a real go of it. The have the energy grid, the sea port and the infrastructure to pull it off. I hope they never have to secede but we are seeing more and more people fed up with out current administration and where it is taken our country. Of course, the Scriptures are clear we are to respect and pray for our president and others in authority over us. We had better be doing that first and foremost.

What do you love about this book?

I enjoyed writing the book and I feel its greatest point deals with the freedoms we have as US Citizens and the dangers that lurk in our political administrations to squash those freedoms. So, If some eyes are opened to this fact then I have done my job.

What do you hope readers will tell others about this book after they’ve finished reading it?

I think these two reviewers sum it up:

“If you are concerned about the direction this administration is taking our country I would strongly encourage you to read this book. We found The Yellow Rose of Texas a novel of extreme relevance in today's political charged environment. “

“Though a work of fiction, the reality of the story is very true to life. It is fast paced and full of action and adventure. I found it easy to follow the storyline as it twist and turned throughout the book. It was very hard to put down and when it ended I was left wanting the next book to see where the story goes.

Book Review: Finding Angel

Finding Angel

Kat Heckenbach

 c. 2011

Splashdown Books

ISBN: 9781927154137

$6.99 ebook

Speculative fiction, YA

An Angel appears out of nowhere…a young girl, wandering along a country path in Florida, in her possession, but no memory. When the Masons find the lost girl, they name her “Angel” for the letters on her bracelet and soon she becomes part of the family.

The Mason collect stray children, including a set of twins who are older than Angel, and a younger boy, Zack, who holds onto Angel’s heart and appreciates her fascination with magical creatures and her reading tree. Eight years pass, and at fourteen, Angel has made a new life, albeit one with a gaping hole.

As much as Angel is infatuated with mythical creatures, Zack loves nature and bugs, and shows her a beetle. Promising to help identify it, Angel visits the library and instead discovers that a new boy, Gregor, has come to town. Gregor unlocks the missing pieces of Angel’s life by taking her “home” to a place of myth and mist, like Glockamorra or Brigadoon. Toch Island is “sort of” in Ireland; “hidden” so it can’t be taken over by technological development, a place where the Empowered do not have to hide their Talents. It’s a place where the magical creatures are true, Elves live and make music, and dangers are real, so real that Gregor has lived as an orphan since the age of ten after the evil Dawric killed his family. Angel stays with Gregor while her memories gradually surface and she relearns her Talent. But Gregor harbors secrets. Is she safe with him? Where are her parents? And what about the new murders in the community?

Chapters are interspersed with scenes of concurrent events that build like pieces of a puzzle. Each chapter and segment has a title that hints at what’s to come.

Although the teens seem too young to live on their own, Heckenbach’s deft handling of the characters feels rich and fully alive. Gregor knows his duty and is ready to fulfill his destiny, and Angel reunites Toch as no one else can.

The author’s word choices are bright and succinct, in voice appropriate to age and magical world. There are instances of danger and murder and resulting emotions that children younger than sixth or seventh grade might find disturbing. Occasional long segments of description and internal thought, months spent relearning Angel’s identity, were sometimes slow but fascinating, and an end that flies up your face shouldn’t disrupt the great pleasure of immersing yourself in the world of Toch, the Empowered, and a future full of bright possibilities and dreams that will come true.
